Endodontic Tooth Bleaching

Teeth can become discoloured due to a variety of reasons. If you have a discoloured tooth, our specialist can restore the natural colour of your tooth in a quick and comfortable procedure.

Single tooth discolouration is often a result of previous trauma to the tooth or the use of older generation root filling materials that might have resulted in dark discolouration. Contemporary materials used rarely cause tooth discolouration.

Endodontic tooth bleaching (internal bleaching) involves placing a bleaching agent in the centre of the tooth crown. This is often carried out painlessly through the same access made on the back surface of the tooth for root canal treatments.

As every tooth is unique, each tooth will respond differently to bleaching agents. It is important to understand that results may vary between patients and multiple applications of bleach might be required to achieve satisfactory results.

Procedure

This is often a painless procedure and may be carried out without the need for anaesthetic, with minimal to no recovery time. Once the desired tooth shade is achieved, a filling will be placed to seal the cavity.

This procedure varies from tray bleaching which improves the colour of multiple teeth simultaneously. Although tray bleaching may be used concurrently, endodontic tooth bleaching is used to improve the colour of a single tooth at a time and an adequate root canal treatment is a prerequisite.
