Most endodontic procedures can be carried out safely and comfortably under local anaesthesia.

However, we understand that some patients are anxious about dental treatments and we will do our best to make your endodontic experience pleasant.

Our specialist endodontist has experience working with sedated patients and we offer a range of sedation options which can be discussed at consultation if you need it.

Local Anaesthesia

Local anaesthesia is used to make a small and specific area of your mouth temporarily unable to feel sensations for the duration of your procedure.

You won’t experience pain during this time, however you will feel some pressure. You can expect this numbness to last for two to four hours, which means you will probably still feel residual numbness after your appointment.

IV Sedation (Twilight Sedation)

IV Sedation or “Twilight sedation” involves administering a sedative through a small tube placed in a vein. This type of sedation is great for patients with severe anxiety as in most cases the patient will be asleep. Unlike general anaesthesia which is carried out in a hospital setting, IV sedation can be administered in our clinic by a dental sedationist who will monitor you throughout the entire duration of the treatment.

We work closely with a dental sedationist with over 30 years of experience providing IV sedation in a dental setting. This is extremely important to us as the needs for dental treatment often vary with medical procedures, and having an experienced dental sedationist makes all the difference.

Our aim is for you to be comfortable and safe. In most cases, you will forget the entire procedure which helps significantly with anxious patients.

IV sedation requires a recovery period and our team and the dental sedationist will discuss all pre and post-procedure requirements in detail with you.
